Elijah McClain, an unarmed 23-year-old Black man, was murdered by police in Aurora, Colorado while walking home in August of 2019. We are just learning about his death a year later, as our Black Lives Matter movement against police brutality has finally become relevant to mass media, corporations, and popular culture after the organization has fought for five years for racial equality and justice.

The Aurora district attorney declined to file charges against police officers Nathan Woodyard, Jason Rosenblatt, and Randy Roedema, and they were reinstated to the force three months after McClain's death.

We’ve seen the endearing videos and photos of Elijah, read what his last words were as he begged for his life, and have shared his story over and over again on our social media platforms. So, what’s next?

Here are three things you can do right now to help this case move forward and get justice for Elijah.

  1. Email Aurora the state and district attorney generals at attorney.general@coag.gov. Demand that Phil Weiser and Dave Young fire and charge the officers who murdered Elijah McClain.

  2. Sign the Color of Change petition.

  3. Donate to Elijah’s mother’s official Go Fund Me.
